FAQ

Q; How often should my horse be trimmed or shod?

A; The rule of thumb is six (6) to eight (8) weeks. Most horses fall into that type of schedule depending on their work load, the type of job they are performing, & any conformation faults that they my have. Some horses do need to be done more often than this and there are a few that can go longer then this but the longer a horse goes between trimmings they are wearing there hooves out of balance. So a longer trimming/shoeing schedule the more out of balance the horse gets and that translate into more stress on the horses joints.

Q; I want a “natural trim” on my horse can you do that?

A; The “natural trims” (yes there are more than one type) that are out there help address certain issues that you can encounter with having a horse bare footed. I do not believe in shoeing your horse just because your bill will be bigger, but I also do not believe that shoes are “evil” to put on a horse. If your horse can do what you are asking of it without shoes that is great, but the feral horses that most of the studies that preceded the “natural trim” are based on are not under the same conditions that their domestic equine partners are. If the feral horse is born with lets say a club foot it will most likely not live long enough to reproduce and make the club foot as much of a genetic trait as it is in some breeds. So the simple answer is yes, I can trim your horse as it best suites your horses needs, but I can also service the horses that are in need of shoes for any reason.

Q; How much do you charge?

A; The price is dependent on many things but our base prices can be found under the “Service” page.

Q; What is the American Farriers Association and what is farrier certification?

A; The American Farriers Association (AFA) is an organization that is dedicated to the continuing education of professional farriers. The AFA offers different levels of certification that are a starting point for horse owners to judge the qualifications of a potential farrier. For full details on the AFA Certification please visit there website at http://americanfarriers.org/
